Sometimes called
"Cottage Italianate" in
style, this petite
corner home was
constructed in 1876
by attorney and
speculator Mansfield
M. Sturgeon.
Purchased around
1890 by a member of
the Bahnsen family, it
has been linked to
Frank Bahnsen, a
German immigrant,
who was vice president of Hartz and Bahnsen Drug Company. Italianate
features abound in this structure. The low-pitched roof has widely
overhanging eaves with decorative paired brackets underneath. The tall
narrow windows are decoratively framed. Side and back porches on the
house feature simple supports with decorative brackets at the roof lines.
The Sturgeon-Bahnsen House is a designated Rock Island Landmark.
