Stewart-Cleaveland House (ca 1880)
805 19th Street
John Stewart, of Stewart and
Montgomery Hardware, built this house
around 1880 and later sold it to Harry
H. Cleaveland, of Hayes and Cleaveland
Insurance. Originally Queen Anne style
Ñ note the modified tower on the
corner Ñ little remains today of its
original appearance other than the
overall shape. The original siding was narrow clapboard, which was
followed around 1915 with stucco and half-timbering, reflecting the
influence of the Prairie style. The entire home was covered with brick in
the 1940s.
