Alexander Steele, a hardware dealer,
was the first occupant of this house,
but lived here only a few years. In
the 1930s the house was converted to
apartments, but in recent years is
once again a family home. The
Italianate form of the house is shown
in the low-pitched hipped roof with
widely overhanging eaves. The
hooded entrance portico is supported by brackets and the double doors
with transom are also typical. Small windows below the eaves and tall
narrow windows with elliptical tops complete the Italianate theme. The
natural dark red brick of this house was originally unpainted.
