This house, along with the five homes to the west and one around the corner on 29th Street, was built by contractor Sam Weisman. The area is known as the Weisman Addition. From their earliest days, these homes have had very few owners - they and their neighborhood are obviously very desirable! The outstanding condition of the homes today attests to the enduring quality of Weisman's work.

The Weisman family lived down the street at 2909 until the late 1930s, when they moved to another Weisman project - the Longview Apartments. In 1948, he built another group of apartments in the 1300 block of 20th Street.

This "Chicago" Bungalow contains elements of both the Tudor Revival and the Craftsman (or Arts-and-Crafts) styles. The gable-originally stucco with "half timbering,"-the brick lower walls, the small-paned windows in groups of two or more, as well as the wonderful arched porch are all Tudor characteristics. The Craftsman influence is apparent in the relatively low pitch of the side-gabled roof and the hipped front dormer. The screened porch at the rear was added a few years ago, while the brick garage is original.

The two bedrooms downstairs (one currently used as a family room) and three additional upstairs allow this home to easily accommodate families of any size. Furnishings in this home feature many pieces in the "Arts and Crafts" style, both old and new.

Charles F. and Gertrude Huthmaker were the original owners. Huthmaker was employed as an editor for Modern Woodmen of America. The Huthmakers remained here until about 1950. By the late 1950s, new owners had duplexed the home. Fortunately it was returned to single family use in the 1980s.
