RIPS November 2018 Newsletter

RIPS Newsletter 11-2018 final    Note that we have our annual holiday social meeting at Hauberg on December 18. Plan on attending, bring a friend, and, if you want, bring a snack or holiday treat to share. And, remember to keep the 3rd Tuesday of each month reserved for RIPS meetings.

The Hauberg Local History series is off to a great start. Upcoming talks include a presentation of the history of all the Rock Island High Schools and, in the new year, a guide to the art at Hauberg mansion.

Did you know that the R.I. County Office building was originally the headquarters for the Modern Woodman of America fraternal insurance company? There is lots of interesting history to share about this building, as well as vintage photos, in this quarter’s newsletter.

RIPS will be working on plans for a Spring 2019 centennial celebration of the World War I public housing project. Not sure what that is? Then learn more in this newsletter. Do you know anyone who lived there or has family who was part of the development? We would like to hear from you!
